About me

I am Helena Rosenthal, Ashtanga Yoga Teacher and Music Coach

I discovered Ashtanga Yoga at 19, and it has been a lifelong journey of practice, inquiry, and self-discovery.

In 2008, after six years of daily practice, I traveled to KPJAYI in Mysore, India, to study with Sharath Jois, receiving Level 1 authorization in 2010 and Level 2 in 2014. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of learning from esteemed teachers and participating in many workshops worldwide.

More recently, I have been studying on different occasions with Gregor Maehle, which has offered me a fresh perspective on various aspects of yoga practice. Particularly after becoming a mother, I’ve begun to embrace a more holistic approach, incorporating elements like music and a deeper understanding of the female body into my practice and experience in the shala. This evolution has enriched my teaching, allowing me to connect more profoundly with my students and their unique journeys.

My teaching journey began in São Paulo, Brazil, where I led Mysore programs at various yoga centers and founded my own shala, Ashtanga Pitanga. Since then, I’ve taught internationally in Portugal, France, Germany and the UK, running Mysore programs at renowned centers like Triyoga Chelsea and Indaba.

I believe the Ashtanga method is a powerful tool for self-knowledge, fostering deeper connections with ourselves, others, and the world. For me, this practice is a moving meditation—a discipline that refines the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of our being. It is essential that the method be taught with flexibility, observing and respecting each individual's constitution and limitations. By honoring our unique bodies and needs, the practice becomes a safe and sustainable journey towards transformation.

As a teacher, I am committed to upholding the highest ethical standards, creating a welcoming and inclusive space where students feel supported. My classes emphasize discipline, compassion, and mindfulness, always encouraging a personal and adaptive approach to practice.
